Human-like artificial robot skin

چکیده
Takao Someya et al. report the development of a f lexible, electronic skin capable of detecting both pressure and temperature, an advance that may provide robots with a humanlike sense of touch. The research team previously developed artificial skin that could sense pressure but lacked the elasticity and other characteristics of human skin. To improve the artificial skin material, Someya et al. embedded organic transistor-based electronic circuits capable of sensing pressure into a thin plastic film, as well as organic semiconductors that could detect temperature. The net-like matrix was f lexible enough to conform to the surface of an egg and could detect pressure and temperature simultaneously. According to the authors, the organic transistors used in the artificial skin are inexpensive and relatively easy to fabricate, and could thus be used in manufacturing robot skin and other commercial products. — M.M.

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network
Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...
متن کاملA Hybrid Neural Network Approach for Kinematic Modeling of a Novel 6-UPS Parallel Human-Like Mastication Robot
Introduction we aimed to introduce a 6-universal-prismatic-spherical (UPS) parallel mechanism for the human jaw motion and theoretically evaluate its kinematic problem. We proposed a strategy to provide a fast and accurate solution to the kinematic problem. The proposed strategy could accelerate the process of solution-finding for the direct kinematic problem by reducing the number of required ...
متن کاملRobocup Humanoid Challenge
We describe here the project of the humanoid challenge that is part of the RoboCup robot soccer competitions. We focus on how the relevant research issues of humanoid robotics –for example biped walking and human-like sensors and actuators– can be addressed and we investigate how the teams proceed to solve the given tasks. Thus, new technologies like artificial muscles and artificial skin might...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study on Blinking and Eye Movement Detection via EEG Signals for Human-Robot Interaction Purposes Based on a Spherical 2-DOF Parallel Robot
Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...
متن کاملThe Making of a 3D-Printed, Cable-Driven, Single-Model, Lightweight Humanoid Robotic Hand
Dexterity robotic hands can (Cummings, 1996) greatly enhance the functionality of humanoid robots, but the making of such hands with not only human-like appearance but also the capability of performing the natural movement of social robots is a challenging problem. The first challenge is to create the hand’s articulated structure and the second challenge is to actuate it to move like a human ha...
